HISTORY at Burning Man: HAL has been approved historically for day and night licenses to Burning Man 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. SEATING: HAL Seats a total of 9 People in 3 rows of seats LIGHTING: Custom LED lighting system throughout the vehicle. Two separate LED controllers to customize the LED program to your preference. BAR: A large inclosed space has been designed at the rear of the vehicle to accommodate a large Cooler to serve drinks out of. MECHANICALS: HAL’s mechanical, electrical and aesthetic systems have been designed and engineered with longevity as a design mandate, ensuring years of reliable fun for a future owner. The Frame/ Chassis and exoskeleton have been customized to accommodate the new concept. It really is 98% custom with a few remaining EZGO Workhorse Parts. We have engineered a new Heavy Duty Rear Axel to support the additional load requirements of the Vehicle (See detail videos) Additionally, the Chassis has been reinforced to handle all of HAL’s components and upgrades. DRIVE TRAIN: (CVT) Continuously Variable Transmission Forward and Reverse gears Top speed of 30 MPH. SUSPENSION: Hal has been fitted with an adjustable Air Suspension system enabling ride adjustments to driver preference. TOWING ON PLAYA: HAL is equipped with a Standard towing hitch and receiver ball enabling towing of a trailer. TRANSPORTATION ON ROAD: Included in the price, HAL is transported via a 16ft “ALUMA” single axle aluminum trailer. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: Q: Do you build Mutant Vehicles for other people? A: Yes. I have been building Mutant vehicles for Burning for many years and I am available to build new vehicles. I presently have only One build slot available for a 2016. Q: How much does it cost to build a Mutant Vehicle for Burning Man? A: $50,000-$250,000 In all honesty, It is very difficult to build a low budget “High Concept” mutant vehicle and get it approved for Burning Man. The Criteria for Mutant Vehicles is extensive as is the application process through the DMV (Department of Mutant Vehicles) Most of the reputable Mutant vehicle builders I know quote an entry level Mutant vehicle at $50,000. You could build one yourself for less of course, but you will need great concept, a shop space, tooling and several hundred hours of your own non paid personal time to make it happen. Q:How much did it cost to build HAL? We have $45,000 in actual hard costs invested in HAL. This excludes my personal time to concept, apply for entry, design and build the vehicle. Q: I want an ART Car Like HAL, how much would that cost? A: To Build you another mutant vehicle the same scale and scope as HAL would cost $65,000-$70,000. So, HAL priced at $44,950 would be an excellent value for someone looking for a “High Concept” turn key Mutant vehicle for the Burn. Q; Why does it cost so much? A: Not all Art Cars are created equal and you most certainly get what you paid for. To Build an art Car like HAL takes hundreds of man hours and a dedication to engineering a vehicle that will be reliable and preform in the harsh high desert environment. The last thing an art car owner wants to be doing on the the playa is spending their time fixing and keeping the vehicle running and operational. Q: How long does it take to build a Mutant Vehicle? A: Getting a substantial Mutant vehicle approved for Burning Man and built within a limited timeline on budget is not for the faint of heart. Planning typical starts 10-12 months prior to The Burn. The DMV (Department of Mutant vehicles) for Burning Man requires and very through application and submission process. 3d drawings, a full concept and a website will increase your chances of approval. Only vehicles that meet their extensive criteria are approved for entry into the event. Q: Surely you could build a Mutant Vehicle for less money and time, right? There are low-concept (Golf Carts with fur) cruising around Burning Man. A: Yes and No. Despite well intentioned first time applicants, It is well know that the DMV rejects a large percentage of the applications due to lack of experience with the application process and the concepts falling short of the mutation criteria. Many of the “Low Concept” “Art cars” you see at buring man are actually approved only for “handicap transportation” Long gone are the days of getting a moderately modified golf cart approved at Burning Man. Everyone wants to have some cool form of personal transportation at Burning Man and the DMV knows this. They have definitely raised the bar on what qualifies as mutated vehicle. Q: So, why are you selling HAL? A: We are selling HAL to raise capital to build our new Mutant Vehicle debuting on the Playa at Burning Man 2016.
