It is time to let go of my beloved Silver Eagle bus conversion. This is likely the most reliable and solid coach that will come to the marketplace in quite a while. This coach is a true four season coach and has been extensively tested in sub zero temperatures. While the conversion is not entirely complete, the bus is in 100% tip-top mechanical condition as well as fully functional for camping. This bus was built with reliability, simplicity, and ease of service as the guiding principles for the engineer. No expenses were spared when acquiring the components to assemble this package. If you look closely at the pictures, you will see that the attention to detail during construction was impeccable. This coach is listed for sale locally so I reserve the right to end this listing early. Please check this listing for links to almost 700 picture of this coach. This is a 1974 Silver Eagle model 05 which had a frame up restoration in 2000. All rusted frame tubes were removed and replaced at that time. The frame was modified to accept the new power plant, cleaned and painted. A 2” receiver hitch was installed. Every effort has been made to retain the original aesthetic appearance of the bus. You will notice very few protrusions from the sides or the roof of the bus. This bus is titled as a recreational vehicle and we have a clear South Dakota title in hand. The bus was painted with Dupont’s, Imron 5000 single stage aircraft paint by Colorado Kenworth. The bus has accumulated a mere 10,000 miles since the restoration. The roof of this coach has been raised 10 inches. The caps were replaced with R&M Fiberglass model 15 caps and windshields. The rear cap has a camera pod which is equipped with a black and white camera with audio, docking lights (operate in reverse or manually with a switch at the rear), and a roof ladder. All siding replaced with new aluminum. The high polished type was utilized on the lower half. All of the 12V wiring was replaced including fuse panel (Painless Wiring) and all exterior light fixtures. The headlights have been upgraded from the original round units to the square halogen units pictured. All fixtures were replaced in their entirety, not just the lenses. The interior was insulated with professionally applied polyurethane spray foam to the thickness of the frame members (40 MM). The bays were insulated with polyurethane board insulation, 1” on the café doors and 1-1/2” on the bay floor as well as between the bays and the house. There are two air conditioners; they are Cruisaire 14K BTU split units which operate on 120 VAC. These are extremely popular units which are specifically designed for mobile applications. The return air for the evaporators is filtered through replaceable HEPA filters. They are individually controlled with the factory thermostats and feature variable speed blower motors for extremely quiet operation. The generator is an Onan 10 KW Quiet Diesel with a remote starting panel including gauges mounted at the dashboard. The hour meter currently reads approximately 950 hours and the unit is tied to the house systems, along with the shore power supply at 220 VAC through an Iota automatic transfer switch. The original air powered windshield wipers were replaced with a new electric system which features independent control and intermittent wiping The original air assisted steering was replaced with a fully hydraulic system including a new gearbox (sector). Also installed was a tilt-telescope wheel and traditional center mounted horn button connected to a pair of Grover “Emergency” model air horns. These horns are loud and are mounted inside the front wheel wells in order to preserve the aesthetic lines of the bus. New Ramco remote control rear view mirrors were installed and both are controlled from a joystick switch at the driver’s position. All heating functions are managed by a diesel and electric boiler. This system, designed and manufactured by Vehicle Systems Inc. of Colorado, is called the Aquahot system. These systems are utilized in the majority of high end coaches on the road today. They operate on diesel fuel, electricity or both. The system includes 4 heating zones including bay heat and 3 zones in the living area. Each zone is separately controlled by its own thermostat. The system also heats the domestic water (endless instant hot water) and ties to engine block for engine preheat. The coolant loop to the engine also serves to exchange heat with this system when the engine is running. The system also utilizes an electric element to reduce fuel consumption when at the power pole or running the generator. The heated bays enable full wet camping in sub zero temperatures. The plumbing systems were designed for extended periods of dry camping and feature: 200 gal. fresh tank, 120 gal. gray tank, and a 66 gal. black tank. A Shurflow ultra-quiet water pump, stainless steel pressure tank, and hidden city water connection complete a very smooth running, quiet, and reliable delivery system. The fresh water is delivered to the house systems with PEX tubing. The tanks are heavy duty, custom built, rotationally molded, high density polyethylene units 3/8” thick. Black and gray are vented separately to the roof and the drain valves operate separately to allow discharge of gray water where allowed. The fresh water tank is equipped with an 1-1/2” dump valve to quickly empty the tank and for winterizing. All drain and vent plumbing is accomplished with standard ABS pipe. All dump valves are the readily available Valtera brand. The entire tankage system is assembled on a skid which is removable from the bay for ease of service. There is a large pull out drawer mounted on full extension drawer slides built into the skid which is an excellent place to store all of your external plumbing supplies (dump hose, fresh water hose, toilet wand, etc.). The tires are Goodyear G-159 (11R24) and the tread is currently 90 + %. The tires are mounted on Alcoa aluminum wheels. All axles received new brake linings, s-cam bushings, wheel bearings, wheel seals, and shock absorbers (other parts were replaced as needed, s-cams, slack adjusters, brake cans). This bus is equipped with spring brakes and manually adjusted slack adjusters. Air drying is accomplished with a Bendix AD-4 dryer which features a heated purge valve. The Torsion tubes are in great condition with plenty of adjustment left (need to get actual measurement but my eye says about 5” left). The fuel capacity is 150 gal. and fills from either side through locking access doors. The fuel tank also supplies generator and Aquahot down to ¼ tank through braided stainless steel fuel lines. The original Detroit Diesel two cycle (8V71) engine was replaced by a Caterpillar 3406B mechanical 4 cycle engine. This engine received an in frame overhaul at installation. The engine is rated (as built by Caterpillar), 425 HP, 1560 Ft. Lbs. torque. It is equipped with Jacob’s brakes, and an electric block heater (in addition to the Aquahot system method for preheat). An additional set of mechanical gauges are mounted at the rear of the bus (air pressure, oil pressure, and engine temp). This coach is equipped with a side mounted radiator, transmission cooler, and A/C condenser (for driver’s air) with belt driven fan. It also features a side mounted charge air cooler with twin electric fans. The throttle is still mechanical but I will include a Williams air throttle set up. The transmission was freshened before installation. It replaced the original Spicer 4 speed manual unit. The transmission is an Allison HT740, 4 speed automatic with remote cooling. The drive axle and drop box were completely overhauled at install with new ring and pinion, all bearings and seals (including wheel end). The original equipment dashboard was replaced with a custom R & M fiberglass unit. It features a full complement of new VDO electronic gauges. The driver’s area is also equipped with the monitor for the rear view camera including a speaker for audio feedback. Additional features include 1 small 12 volt fan and numerous dash mounted HVAC vents. The air conditioning vents are supplied by a new, Fridgette, HVAC heat exchanger / evaporator with defrost. This system is tied to the engine coolant loop and equipped with a booster pump for efficient circulation. The evaporator and condenser for this system are not connected but all plumbing is in place including the condenser. The compressor is included but has not been installed. All other functions are fully installed including switches, vents with ducting, vacuum pump for blend door operation, etc. Also included in the driver’s area is a hand throttle for high idle duties. The entertainment system features a 32” HD flat screen television connected to a Sony 1000 watt surround sound system. This Sony system includes a 5 disc AM/FM/CD/DVD player, 5 speakers and a sub-woofer. This 120VAC unit runs from the inverter or other 120VAC power sources. We utilize this system instead of the in-dash unit while parked or underway. This is the reason that there are no speakers connected to the dash mounted unit. The head unit is concealed inside the entertainment system cabinet and is controlled remotely from the driver’s seat or anywhere in the coach by utilizing the factory provided infrared remote control. The remote control signal reaches the head unit through the installed infrared repeater system. The bedroom is interconnected with a 12” pull out flat screen (12 volt DC). Over the air signals are received through an amplified, roof mounted, crank up, Winegard batwing antenna. There are numerous 75 ohm (RG-6) coaxial lead-in connections around the coach. These lead-in connections are located in the bays, on the roof, and under the left front corner of the exterior. All lead-ins are cabled to the entertainment system cabinet. Electrical- 12V, 4) ea. 8D AGM house batteries with Iota 75 amp charger. 120V, Vanner 1000 watt inverter, Iota automatic transfer switch, hidden Marinco 50 amp shore power cable connector and approx. 60 foot shore cord. Glass- windshields are Eagle mod. 15. sides are Hehr single pane sliders with screens Bath- 32” X 32” fiberglass shower with hinged glass door and adjustable flow shower head. Toilet is Sealand china bowl with auxiliary sprayer. Refrigerator- side by side 120 volt (approx 20 cu. Ft.) Microwave over cooktop with filter fan. There are eight hard points installed on the roof for the future installation of an observation platform or other roof mounted racks. Cooktop is 2 burner glass Sun visors- Rosen high end aircraft visors, (Same ones used by Boeing) fully adjustable Café doors on bays. Flooring is high end, engineered, hand sculpted Hickory. Walls are ½” ACX plywood covered with white FRP. Also included with this coach are numerous materials to help with the completion of the conversion in addition to full documentation of systems wiring, paint codes, owners and service manuals, picture documentation of the build, etc. A driver’s seat is also included although it is not shown in the pictures. This coach has been all over the western U.S. in all types of weather conditions. From over 100 degrees in the Arizona desert to sub zero temperatures in the Rocky Mountains, all systems perform flawlessly. I would not hesitate to drive this machine anyplace on the continent at any time of the year. This bus is ready to drive and camp. Still needed to complete: furniture and window coverings, counter tops, cabinet doors, trim, ceiling panels and covering. 1974 Silver Eagle custom motor coach (this was a frame up restoration) Caterpillar 3406B 4 cycle diesel engine 425 hp 1560 ft lbs torque (mechanical engine with Jacobs brakes) Allison HT740 4 speed automatic transmission Hydraulic power steering Electric windshield wipers Ramco electric remote control rear view mirrors Aquahot diesel fired boiler (3 zone interior + bay heat) 2) Cruisair 14000 btu air conditioners (2 zones) Tankage: 200 fresh. 120 grey, 66 black (heated bays) separate black and grey vents Onan 10KW quiet diesel generator Alcoa aluminum wheels Goodyear G159 tires @ 90+ % Vanner 1000W emergency vehicle inverter Iota 75A charger Automatic transfer switch 4) 8D AGM house batteries 10” roof raise R&M front and rear caps with rear camera Café bay doors Hehr sliding windows Winegard batwing antenna Rear ladder to roof RV title R&M custom dash with electronic gages Painless Wiring 12V all new chassis wiring include bulbs, fixtures, lenses, bezels and fixtures Imron single stage paint Tilt-telescope steering column Sealand china toilet Receiver hitch Grover emergency air horns Spray foam insulation Insulated bays Full size refrigerator Full size microwave 2 burner electric, glass top cooktop 32” HD TV Sony 1000 watt 5 speaker surround sound w/AM-FM, 5 disc-CD-DVD 2 burner electric cook top 12” flatscreen TV in bedroom Rosen sun visors There are almost 700 pictures of the coach here: 524 pictures of the build 149 picture of the coach in its current condition Local pickup. I installed a NEW JVC DVD-CD-USB-6.1 Screen Bluetooth KWAV60BT with built in back up camera view and optional GPS through your I-Phone or Android. Note: The NEW Fuel Gauge is not programming properly for some reason..This is up to you to fix or not. The old working gauge comes with the sale. The Driver’s Seat is a Bostrom Air-Ride seat that has been reupholstered to match interior. The design is in favor of the older Ferrari GTS’s and Boxers. The passenger seat is a very cool hidden seat that can be pulled out when needed and hidden away when not. Seat belts are installed and are a true conversation piece when people see it. The seat was custom made to match the entire new interior of the bus. (See Pics) Many other things I am sure I just forgot. Over $6500 invested in this dash project within the last 6mos. Lounge Living Area: Just installed is a new Italian Styled Couch that has underneath storage. (This couch is custom built into the coach and not a regular couch) The ends are completed with REAL Granite Surface tops and solid Oak Cabinets. The secondary couch is a J-Style and is still in the old style Brown material. (This can be left as is or you can have it covered to match the rest. Our upholstery guy cannot do it anymore.) Underneath the j-couch is a lot of extra hidden storage and the fronts are finished in matching Oak cabinetry. The carpet was installed winter of 2012. Mounted is a 39” Visio HDTV and a RCA Blue Ray Home Theater Surround Sound System putting you right into the movies. 12 volt recessed lighting inside the ends of the slide that accent the Granite surface top when lit. A granite topped desk is custom built into the bus and can be used for a computer, sewing machine or just a nook. This area has a unique swivel rocker office type chair upholstered with same material as couch and drivers area. (See Pics)   Kitchen: Oak Cabinets and Granite countertops accent this useful kitchen equipped with an 8mo oldCuisinart Convection/Microwave and matching Cuisinart Coffee Pot (Grinder) (All in excellent working order) The White Ceramic Tile was installed late 2012 however there are a few places that need re-grouting. The Magic Chef Refrigerator was installed just before we purchased this in 2010. It works fantastic and has never given us any trouble. This kitchen has a deep double basin Stainless Steel Sink tapped with a long neck Mohen Faucet. Recessed lighting above sink look very nice and provide great lighting when using sink. When the granite was installed by the previous Canadian owner, he elected to remove the stove/oven and create more counter space so needless to say, this does not have a surface stove however, we use an induction heating plate by Nu’Wave PIC and it works great. It we will be included in the sale. I custom made another cabinet for added kitchen storage and it has a Formica surface to match the granite. This cabinet has a round end that swings open for an easy access pantry, silverware or other storage. Plenty of lighting in this kitchen from the Recessed lights, Florescent lighting and the Multi-directional lighting for times when you need direct light where you want it. Aside the refrigerator is more Oak Cabinets for storage or whatever you like and it is topped with matching Granite Surface top. Moving toward the rear: This 1968 Silver Eagle has a side Isle hallway which is untraditional of most coaches. This configuration is much better as it gives options for actual doors to close into the bedroom and bath. The hall is carpeted with a commercial style short hair carpet that looks nice but not new. The right wall is a type of carbon sheet that is very easy to clean and looks very nice. The left wall is all Oak and hides the Oak Pocket Door into the bath and bedroom. A light is mounted in the hall and an RV sliding window shaded by a Levlour Blind complete the hall. Bath: Mohen Faucets, Brass Framed glass Shower with Real Ceramic Tiles floor to ceiling. The toilet is a Real Ceramic RV style with foot pedal. Most is accented with the Solid Oak including the mirrored Oak medicine cabinet. Shower is a decent size and bigger than most conventional Diesel motorhomes. The bath also has a Ceiling Fan/Vent and one RV sliding window shaded by a Levlour Blind. Bedroom: Full size Bed on an Oak Base with built in Drawers underneath for extra storage. Under the bed center is even more storage for blankets etc. All Cabinets are Solid Oak and the head board is mirrored with duel light receptacles on both sides. An average size closet with 2 tears of poles for hanging cloths and shelving on one side all covered by a type of Oak Pocket Door. One 19inch Emerson HDTV mounted on the wall and a CD/AM/FM Stereo completes the entertainment in the bedroom. A Fantastic Fan is mounted in the roof that has a 14” opening that I was going to eventually add an A/C. I never got to it..In summer months, we put a fan in the hall to pipe the cool air into bedroom and it kept it tolerable up to the 90’s outside. Above that we opened the windows in bedroom and closed the door until evening. ( I do recommend having one installed though. I got a price to install a 13,000BTU for $1100 including labor.) You can find NEW A/C’s for under $700 if you shop around. Storage Bays: Gutted and rebuilt the #2 underneath storage bay with marine pressure treated plywood, new carpet, installed TWO Brand new roller bearing tool chests and custom made a cabinet separating the two for added hidden storage. I also added a 26” Visio HDTV, Visio Blue RaySMART Player and a new Visio Sound Bar for crisp clear TV or Music outside. The #1 storage bay has a Slide Master Roller Bearing storage drawer for easy loading of camping gear, tools or whatever you have. Soft lighted rope lighting edge the tool boxes and entertainment center for subtle ambient light. I have 3 brand new overhead lights NOT installed that goes with the sale. All together, over $4000 was spent JUST in the #1 and #2 Storage Bays. The rear #3 bay has: UPDATE – 4/25/2014, Newly reworked sewer bay #3 with a new Alluminum floor panel, changed water inlet and resealed all sewer lines along with making floor water tight for easy wash outs if you make a mess dumping tanks.. 1 100 Gal Grey Water Tank (Stainless Steel) 1 100 Gal Fresh Water Tank (Stainless Steel) 1 50 Gal Black Water Tank (Poly type material) 1 18 Gal Propane Tank (Mounted) 1 20 Gal Electric Hot Water Heater (Works Great) 1 Power Converter ( 110 Volts to 12 Volt ) Electric Water Pump for Dry Camping Engine Bay: 2 New House Batteries installed mid-summer 2013. A 7800 mile 8V71 Detroit Diesel with 318HP powers this Eagle and drives an Allison 4spd Automatic Transmission. The Bus sits on an Incased Rubber suspension called Torsilastic Suspension which gives one of the best rides in any bus. This suspension is in perfect working order and doesn’t lean like other worn out ones do. The shocks are undetermined of the age but appear to be in good condition. The Brakes have been upgraded to larger drums and shoes for better stopping power and many of the Air Lines and brake pods have been replaced within the last 5 years. Nothing suspension wise needs repair as far as I know. I have not heard any air leaks. When the new engine was installed, it was my understanding that larger injectors were installed for better power and increased fuel mileage. Pittsburgh Power is the Number one Detroit Diesel shop in the country and they have a reputation for getting more power out of Detroit Diesels and this one has calculated to get an average of 7-9MPG’s. This engine doesn’t smoke or make any unusual noises. At this point, it isn’t even leaking oil but as bus people, know, It will soon enough..The 8V71 is known for leaking oil and is a very real characteristic of all of them..it is the nature of these engines. I do not know what gear ratio the rear end is but I know there is moisture on the housing. (Probably just a Seal) The Engine Start Batteries (2) were replaced separately and one was installed new in early 2011 and the second was installed early 2012. Both are Heavy Duty 1000Amp Truck Batteries. I have never had any problems with them holding a charge since I replaced them. The engine start batteries have a Battery Disconnect Switch to help keep from draining while parked. That switch is located in the engine bay. The Exhaust system is Duel and the one muffler is about 4 yrs old and the other is undetermined but in good shape. I just replaced NEW, a Large Cast Iron Elbow connecting the exhaust manifold to the muffler. On Eagle Buses, there is a gear box that drives the belts to the fan and the alternator. They call these Miter boxes. The Miter Box will need a seal due to a slow leak..I never fixed it because it didn’t leak enough to warrant the effort changing it. I just kept it full of gear oil. Generator Compartment: The Generator is an EV6010 Honda Commercial RV Generator (6KW – Gas) that when running, it powered everything in the coach. My neglect for not starting regularly allowed the gas to gum up and clog the carburetor. I removed the Genie and had a Honda Small engine shop in Bowling Green take it to rebuild the carb and service it..Unfortunately when they were done, they advised me that it no longer would stay running when releasing the start button. A Honda EV 6010 Specialist said it needed a thorough cleaning of the STATOR and it should be fine, however this guy is 150 miles from me and I haven’t had time to take it to him for the repair. This is all I know about the genie accept the hrs on the counter show 440. The buyer will be responsible for getting this fixed themselves but the unit comes with the sale. This has a custom built 12 Gal Stainless Steel Gas Tank mounted in a Stainless Steel frame. Personally I stalled on making time to fix this since I wanted to get a Diesel Genie when I had the money. That never happened. Front Suspension: The front end seems to be in good working order, bushings, brakes, tie rods etc. This is equipped with Air-Assist Steering. The steering box appears to have minimal steer play about maybe 3-4 inches but drives straight and smooth down the road.. Exterior: The paint on this is Black Cherry Imron Basecoat Clear Coat that has peeling on upper 12 inches of the bus. Although it does need paint to be really nice, the existing looks ok to use now and the sides shine nice. Chips and little imperfections are evident all through the paint finish but still looks pretty good. All of the Alluminum Siding was replaced I understood back in 2005. The 24.5 Wheels made by Alcoa and are from a Freightliner Classic semi truck. All of them shine up to a lusteruos shine and are in good shape. The 2 inside rear wheels are standard steel wheels. The Bumpers on this coach are 1967 model 01's and the upper front and rear caps are 1968 model 05's. The Silver Eagle has served us very well and NEVER let us down but times are changing and our situation and ideas have changed some. Lots of buses out there but none like this one. Please read all of the above very carefully before calling. I wanted to note the problems I know of and they are: Miter Box needs a Seal ( Easy Fix but only leaks a little ) Paint on Upper Half has clear-coat peeling from the hot sun in Florida. Sides are OK but not perfect. Still looks very presentable The EV 6010 Honda Generator with 440 hrs needs repair ( It doesn’t work currently ) I was going to replace with Diesel generator but never got to it. Best Features Summary are: 11ft Slide and it works great with no Leaks The Engine has under 10,000 Miles ( 8V71 Detroit non-Turbo ) Runs Great and Starts every time with touch of switch and DOES NOT SMOKE AT ALL.. Allison Automatic Transmission – Has always shifted good for us and not had any problems.
